Bigger frontage, bigger possibilities – here's how to use them.
Detached homes across Worcestershire come in every shape and size – from 1930s arts-and-crafts detached villas in Malvern Wells, to 1970s family detached in Crown East and Powick, to modern executive detached on estates like the new builds at Pershore Riverside. The shared advantage is the frontage width: most detached properties have 8m or more between the boundaries, which opens up options that aren't available on a semi or terrace.
Single drop, double drop or twin access?
Three layouts dominate:
• Single drop (2.4m to 3.6m) – cheapest option, one car parks straight on. Fine if you only ever have one car at the property.
• Double-width drop (4.8m to 6m) – the most popular detached choice, two cars side by side, modest price uplift over single. The default suggestion for two-car households.
• Twin access points – two separate dropped kerbs, one at each end of the frontage. Drive in one side, drive out the other. Genuinely transformative for safety on a busy road because you never reverse blind onto traffic. Priced as two installs.
What it costs on a detached property
A standard single drop sits within standard residential scope. Variables specific to detached jobs that may add scope:
• Double-width drops carry a modest uplift over single – mainly extra kerb units and a wider footway reinstatement area
• Twin access is priced as two installs with a discount where the visit and traffic management overlap
• Granite or natural stone kerb units add to the material cost but last indefinitely
• Long drives sometimes need additional turning or sweep apron work where the public footway transitions onto the private drive
Every quote is written, itemised and valid for 30 days. We bring physical samples of kerb options to the site visit so you can see granite vs sandstone vs concrete against your own brickwork.
Premium kerb finishes for a high-end frontage
On a detached property the kerb is visible from the road and becomes part of the kerb appeal of the house. We offer:
• Modern concrete kerbs – the default. Clean, durable, cost-effective. Match almost every street.
• Granite kerbs – premium look, indefinite lifespan, pairs beautifully with block paving and natural stone driveways. Specified on many Malvern detached homes.
• Reconstituted stone – a middle path. Stone look at a manageable price.
Driveway behind a wide drop
A wider drop is wasted without a driveway behind it that uses the space well. The popular detached pairings are block paving for traditional grandeur, resin bound for the modern seamless look, or pattern imprinted concrete for premium longevity. See our new driveways hub for the full comparison. To explore other property types, our dropped kerbs hub covers every option.
